It’s actually surprisingly rare to hear a truly acoustic album these days. With a considerable number of singer-songwriters opting for a full band approach, particularly in the alternative market, Worcester, Massachusetts based Jon, The Archivist isn’t afraid to strip it all back to vocals and guitars.
On his new album ‘Tenement’, the beautifully crafted acoustic tones tell a story; a concept album of sorts, but far removed from what could have been.
“When I first started writing this record I had a completely different plan for a highly complicated concept album about cyborgs and Hollywood, but I soon realized that all of that stuff was just fluff and wasn’t what was really important to my music,” Jon Brien explains. “So I ended up opting for something much simpler: it’s just a series of stories about a group of people who live in the same apartment building in a really cold, fictional city. I really wanted to let each character shine on their own in a way that felt real, and hopefully the songs reflect that.”
‘Tenement’ will be released fully via Honest Face Records on the 19th November. It follows ‘a flash of dark // a wash of light’, released earlier in the year. Physical copies will be available via the Honest Face Records online store.
