INTRODUCING: I Swim With Sharks

By Chris Marshman

For fans of: Jimmy Eat World, Make Do and Mend

So, as we carry on our Introducing feature, we’ve dialled down the pop punk and are today bringing to your attention I Swim With Sharks, a band that are playing a refined rocky sound not too dissimilar to the likes of Make Do and Mend. This band are doing things right with a massive DIY attitude and a constant touring schedule, and they’re currently picking up fans up and down the country. Their songs feature soaring choruses with distinctive vocals, and they’re about to go and record their debut album so hopefully it won’t be too long until we hear some more.

You can check out their current single ‘Build Me Up’ below as well as a short interview with the band.

Hi Guys, first of all lets get an introduction sorted, who is I Swim With Sharks and what kind of music do you play?

Evan: We are a 3 piece band who play what we like to refer to as Guitar Driven Aggro Pop. We are Luke on Guitars and Vocals, Phil on Bass and myself on drums

Tell me a bit about behind the history of the band

Phil: We put I SWIM WITH SHARKS together about 18 Months ago here in Leeds, been playing and gigging non stop really. We have put out 2 singles and are about to go in to start recording for our debut album

You’ve just released the single for your song ‘Build Me Up’ through Gumption? Records, how did that link up come about?

Luke: Gumption? Records is actually our own label, it is under the umbrella company of Gumption? which includes Photography, Video, Recording, Music, basically anything that we create and want to get out there we put out under Gumption? so it made the link up pretty easy, I guess you could say, we signed ourselves

If you could name one, what would be the stand out moment for you guys as a band so far?

Luke: Headlining BayFest last year looking out from the top of the hill on stage into the Bay whilst it was pissing down with rain and howling with wind, Water dripping off the mic stands and from my guitar, dangerous but was such a kick ass experience.

Evan: Playing at Thimbleberry, literally in the middle of nowhere on an amazing festival site.

Phil: Supporting Tribes here in Leeds on their last tour

What are your plans going into the rest of the year?

Luke: We are writing the last bits of the album now to go record for July then touring in August back to writing til the end of September for the next release, developing our own custom foot controlled light show for our gigs. Get back out playing shows in October to support the release of the album in November then hang out with Santa after that.

Is there anything at all that you’d like to add?

Luke: Massive amounts of love to all you people who get up and out of the house to go support live music and keep your scenes going, we need more people exactly like you. Good job spreading the live music love.
