Now, we have no qualms in admitting that All or Nothing were something of a Punktastic favourite, so it was only natural we were a bit gutted when they seemingly disbanded – so imagine how stoked we were to find out that most of the members had decided to start afresh, under the guise of N I G H T L I F E.  After having a listen we were not disappointed. While employing an overall slightly darker approach to their music, they still retain a melody and catchiness that made All or Nothing so good. The music they’re making  is bang on what the UK scene is enjoying at the moment. The future most definitely is bright for these guys so get on board…

Below you can find an interview with the band, and a stream of their song “The Road to Hope and Glory”

Hey guys! First up, for anyone that’s not aware, who is N I G H T L I F E and what kind of music do you play?
We’re a new band that formed in 2012 after All Or Nothing split up. We have Paul Foster on vocals and guitar, he used to play in one of AONs favourite UK bands Chaos Days. Rich Murphy also on vocals and guitar and Nick Reynolds on drums played in AON and Scott Milner on bass who used to play in The Fight. I guess we have a more rock influenced pop punk thing going on. We like the heavy sound with as much melody as possible.

The band features ex- All Or Nothing members, right? so how did this band end up forming?
Basically after a record deal went down the pan and we got completely fucked over by the King Blues ex-label Transmission records, our singer decided to quit as he’d had enough of all the bullshit we were subjected to. And so consequently we decided to call it a day and end All Or Nothing to start afresh with an entirely new band so we could do whatever the fuck we wanted with no-one telling us what we can and can’t do. The way it should be!

You guys released the “Road to Hope and Glory” EP last month, how have you found the reaction to that?
It’s been awesome! No-ones had a bad word to say about it so far so we’re really happy. It’s been a long time coming, a couple of these songs were written whilst we were still AON when Paul had joined towards the tail end of that band. He’s the main song writer of Nightlife and it’s awesome. We’re relieved to finally have some new stuff out there after so long waiting to release, and loving the positive reaction so thanks to anyone who’s already checked it out.

The whole sound is a bit of a departure from the sound of All Or Nothing, is that intentional or just representative of different influences in this band now?
It’s both intentional and a natural progression. We were starting pretty much from scratch, and had scrapped a tonne of songs we wrote whilst still AON. We didn’t wanna start a new band and sound exactly the same. Plus we’ve been listening to new sounds like Diamond (great band check them out) and a lot of older stuff too that we’ve always loved like early Foos. We wanted to push ourselves and not keep writing the same pop punk stuff that we’ve done in the past. We still love that, but this band I guess is a bit more experimental. Hope that doesn’t sound too wanky!

What do you guys have planned for the rest of the year?
We’re currently booking some shows for summer and hopefully we’ll get back in the studio with Pete Miles again soon enough to record another 4 or so tracks. We’re planning a video or two at the moment too so hopefully you’ll see one of those online soon. No big plans yet, just wanna keep steadily releasing new tunes and have some fun / see where it takes us.

If you can pick one, do you have a stand out memory or highlight of being in N I G H T L I F E so far?
Well we’re a brand new band so the highlights have been forming the band and spending a week in the studio recording these songs that we love. And of course releasing it. Personally I love the studio, a lot of musicians don’t for some reason but the process of starting from nothing and having a set of completely finished tracks at the end of it that you can take with you and show the world and keep forever I think is the best thing ever. Can’t wait to get back out on the road and play some shows too though.

Is there anything at all you’d like to add?
Yeah go check out the EP, it’s on Spotify (Nightlife – The Road to Hope and Glory EP) or you can stream it for free on soundcloud too (http://soundcloud.com/nightlifeuk/tracks). Or if you’re feeling generous / don’t just wanna stream it – go buy it on iTunes here, it’s real cheap: http://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/the-road-to-hope-and-glory-ep/id521226779
