For this special feature we invited Matt Caughthran, lead singer of The Bronx to tell us in his own words what influenced their spectacular new album, 'V', finally out now after four years. He came back with five things that were more powerful and arresting than we had imagined...

Matt has included some strong, graphic themes that influenced the new Bronx album. So discretion is advised as the below videos may be triggering for some readers.

Introducing The Bronx ‘V’ Mood Board

1. The Challenger disaster

I have become completely obsessed with the Challenger disaster. There are so many moments/ideas/relationships in life that take flight only to crash and burn, but the Challenger was a soul crusher. One of those moments when humanity doesn’t even feel real. Mythological pain + hollywood disbelief = Bronx V

2. Cleon Peterson

Cleon is an amazing artist. To me his work depicts the fall of man, the fall of a utopian society, the inner animal, and the need for violence. His work is crude, like an oil spill, and thats what nasty rock and roll should sound like.

3.The Menendez Murders

“Classic Hollywood rich kid murder” should be its own genre of music.

4. Police brutality and modern racism

This video of Philando Castile fucked me up! 2016-17 saw the resurgence of racially motivated police brutality, social injustice, and political ignorance. All documented in one form or another on Bronx V.

5. Rock and Roll

Loud sleazy guitar, back alley bass, violent drums, and nasty vocals. Chuck Berry died on March 18, 2017 but Rock and Roll will live forever.
