Hevy boasts one of the most impressive line ups of the entire festival calendar this year, and with only one week to go, we thought it was apt time to start letting you in on what we’re most excited about!
First up, we’ll blow our own trumpet as hard as possible with a look at our stage over the weekend. It boasts some of the greatest names in metal/hardcore/punk and it’s quite possibly the biggest thing we’ve ever done. Although you should be watching ALL of the bands, here’s our top three from each day…
FRIDAY
1. GNARWOLVES
Our openers on Friday are the awesome GNARWOLVES. They’re our ones to watch for the year, and with recent EP, ‘CRU’, going down a storm across the board, you need to be watching this band as soon as possible.
2. DEEZ NUTS
You can’t really have a stage with Deez Nuts on and tell people not to watch them. They’re set to tear the place apart as they close off the day on Friday, and it’s all going to get a little bit silly.
3. BLACKLISTERS
Their recent (sort of) self-titled album is one of our favourite albums of the year, and with Blacklisters appearing just shy of the midpoint of our Friday, their set should set the precedent for the chaos to follow.
SATURDAY
1. ANDREW WK
Similarly to Deez Nuts, we can’t really imagine not recommending that you check out Andrew WK, so do yourself a massive favour and be raring to go when he hits the stage. The big hits will undoubtably produce some incredible scenes, so you know what to do (mosh pit around a human pyramid endorsed & encouraged.)
2. MUNICIPAL WASTE
It’s been far too long since we’ve watched Municipal Waste (though we’re not sure why), and every single time the thrash giants appear anywhere it becomes utter carnage. They’re playing fairly late on Saturday evening, so there’s no excuse not to let municipal waste fuck you up like only they can.
3. DEVIL SOLD HIS SOUL
Currently prepping a brand new album, Devil Sold His Soul are making a return in a big way this year, and Ed Gibbs & co are always produce the goods live. You’d be mad to miss the new material live, so come and see brutality and melody collide in the best way possible.
SUNDAY
1. VERSE
Returning from nothingness for a new album on Bridge9 this year, Verse are one of the most anticipated bands of this year’s Hevy fest. The band have been on top form since returning, so they’re one you simply shouldn’t miss.
2. ATTACK! VIPERS!
One of the UK’s most enduring hardcore bands, Attack! Vipers!’s latest record has put them right back on the map, and kicking off our stage on the Sunday should be MASSIVE for them. Well worth getting out of bed for one of the UK’s most underrated bands.
3. CONVERGE
Well, okay. We recommended all the headliners on our stage over the weekend. There’s a fairly good reason for all three being mentioned though, and Converge are usually face meltingly brilliant live so our Sunday night closer is essential listening for anyone and everyone there.
Those are just three highlights a day from a rammed Punktastic stage over the weekend. To see why you should be cancelling all plans (if you haven’t already) for next weekend’s festival, go here: http://www.hevy.co.uk/2012/lineup/stages
