Stream a new track by Cardiff punks Bicycle Thieves

By Ben Tipple

With their tour van playing host to CDs by the likes of The Menzingers, Beach Slang, Turnstile and Bruce Springsteen, it’s easy to see how Cardiff punks Bicycle Thieves have ended up with such a broad sound. Gruff punk dominates the vocals, whilst a slower melody underpins their new track, ‘We’ll Be The Ones (You’re Afraid To Be)’.

“I wanted a big ending track and this worked perfectly,” says guitarist and vocalist Neil Doran. “This is about expecting the perfect ending but then as you get older you realise there’s no such thing, but you do have the chance to be the person that you’ve always wanted to be and ignore the people around you making you feel like shit, or people that tell you what you should or shouldn’t do. I’ll still be writing songs and riding skateboards when I’m 50. If that freaks people out, so be it.”

With their uplifting message as a driving force, Bicycle Thieves are gearing up for the release of their debut EP, recorded by Tom Avon at Primaudio in Newport.
