Stream some new songs from Bedroom Sons

By Maryam Hassan

Our stream this week come from Chicago based emo punks Bedroom Sons. We saw them earlier this year twice (once in a house and once with Somos and Save Ends) and are stoked to bring you three new tracks from them! You can download the songs, which feature on the single release for ‘Wastin’ My Time’ over at bandcamp and also from the band on their upcoming tour with Churchkey at the end of the month. Details for that are here.

We asked Christopher Dertz to introduce the songs to you and here’s what he had to say…

The songs themselves… Basically I tend to release songs between LPs because I get too many ideas that I get antsy with, and I don’t want to wait to release them, especially if they don’t fit with what I’m planning for the next proper record. I never really wanted to be one of those “EP” bands, but I mean The Beatles released tons of singles between their LPs so who the heck am I to act like I shouldn’t you know? I picked “Wastin’ All My Time” to be the single (for which we will probably be doing a video for early next year) because it is the most recent song I’ve written, and I think it’s one of the tightest and most dynamic songs I’ve worked on. Also, it’s cold as hell here in Chicago, so I thought it might be nice for people to have one more summer-y jam to get them through this frozen hellscape. The two b-sides, “Velvet” and “Finally Waiting” have always been linked together, to me, and originally were going to be on our next LP until that kind of changed direction. So now they are here, and I think they work together in an interesting way.

I think the biggest thing that I could hope people take from this release is that, stylistically, I am going to keep doing just whatever the heck I want, whether it’s making big and apocalyptic, 16-minute rock songs, screaming into a microphone and then making super dancy, Motown-worship jams the next minute. People put themselves into boxes too often, and I think I tend to do kind of the opposite.
