Despite emerging out of Perth and Glasgow, post-hardcore four-piece Alburn share more in common with stateside veterans such as Brand New and Crime In Stereo. Fusing emo-tinged melodies with post-rock soundscapes and strained vocals, their sophomore EP ‘Mouthful of Glass’ provides a beautiful representation of cross-continental influence.
Released yesterday (Monday 25th August) via Split Lies Records, the EP moves between quiet and loud, often throwing them together in the space of seconds. Clearly connoisseurs of the Deep Elm Records heyday, and the musical movements that saw Texas Is The Reason and The Appleseed Cast rise up, ‘Mouthful of Glass’ proves to be both a retrospective and refreshing listen.
The record was recovered at The Ranch by Neil Kennedy, whose previous work includes that of Last Witness and the similarly epically melodic and forceful Burn The Fleet, and mastered by Alan Douches.
