Watch the new The Winter Passing video

By Ben Tipple

Hailing from both the Midlands and Ireland, The Winter Passing share more in common with their state-side counterparts – bands such as recent stage-sharers Seahaven, and the softer side of Balance and Composure. Their distinctive, subtle and often beautiful sound has seen them join the likes of Departures, Ivy League TX and Diamond Youth on the ever exciting Fist In The Air Records roster.

The five-piece are currently gearing up to release their debut album, ‘A Different Space of Mind’ in early 2015.

“We put more effort and consideration into these songs. We figured out the band we wanted to be if that makes sense,” The Winter Passing explain their new album. “That’s what we tried to do on the record, mix the old The Winter Passing sound on the last releases with a newer sound/direction.”

In anticipation, the band have now revealed the video for ‘Fruits Of Gloom’. “The lyrical content in this song and on the record in general predominately deal with overcoming emotions and the realisation that things aren’t actually as bad as you think they are no matter how much your mind leads you to believe otherwise,” they say of the track. “‘Fruits of Gloom’ is a song of reassurance, it represents hope and survival. Everything happens for a reason, if something isn’t for you, it will go by you. You’ll be OK!”

Following both the track and the record’s release, there’s still plenty more on the horizon. “It’s harder for us being from Ireland to play in the UK as much as we would like to but we try to work it out as much as possible, we just love playing shows and taking our music to as many places possible. Having a solid label like FITA behind us means so much, we’ve played some pretty great shows in the past few months and finished recording our first album, we’re very grateful for everything we’ve done with this band thus far. We’re excited to do more stuff!”
