Anna’s Anchor, the musical project by Irish emo/alternative singer-songwriter Marty Ryan, have already enjoyed touring alongside underground heroes such as Koji and Bob Nanna. Their heartfelt style draws influence from stalwarts such as City & Colour and Into It. Over It., defined by Ryan’s distinctive vocals. New track ‘Mirabell’ follows last year’s ‘Oak Street’ EP, and follows Anna’s Anchor’s tours around Ireland and mainland Europe. The track is taken from the forthcoming split with James Carroll, ‘Crossing Channels’.
“The idea for the track came while I was on tour in Austria last December,” Ryan explains. “After playing to a really small crowd in Vienna I ended up having one of the best & inspiring times as a touring musician the next night in Salzburg, everything went right in the most unlikely place. In life we do a lot of things that at face value may not appear good for us or make sense, but there’s an unexplainable love that keeps us going back to whatever/whoever it may be regardless and one stroke of good luck can keep you going through an almost insurmountable amount of challenges. I wanted to try and draw light to that with the song. This sentiment rings true to my own hometown, Limerick, which has a bad reputation but I have such an unexplainable love for the place that I wanted to show off its side of beauty in the video.”
Anna’s Anchor have captured this bitter-sweet attitude in their video for ‘Mirabell’, which can be viewed exclusively below.
‘Crossing Channels’ will be available on the 2nd April 2015 in conjunction with Little L Records (IRL) and Progressive People Records (UK). Anna’s Anchor’s ‘Oak Street’ EP is available to download for free via BandCamp.
Anna’s Anchor and James Carroll will be touring together in support of the release.
