A Day To Remember – Old Record

By paul

I’m not a big fan of re-releases. I know exactly why record labels do them, but I feel they penalize the fans of those bands to stick out the same CD with extras if they’ve already purchased the CD. What’s the incentive to go out and buy the CD when it comes out if you’d get better value for money 6 months later? ADTR are still one of my favourite bands of the ‘scene’ and this is a re-recorded and re-mastered version of their first album. An album, I may add, which was critically acclaimed not once but twice on PT back in May 2005 when it was originally released as ‘And Their Name Was Treason’ on Indianola Records.

While I understand why fans would want to check this album out out of curiousity, it’s not as good as ‘For Those Who Have Heart‘ and if you paid for the original there’s not really a reason to pay for this. It’s a re-recorded version of the original. And that’s that. There’s little more to say, other than if you liked the original you will like this too. It’s less everything than the follow-up; less melodic, less catchy, less heavy and less obvious. But it’s still a fairly good record. ‘Heart Less’ and ‘At 2nd Glance’ are good songs made better. Only the token ‘ballad’ ‘U Had Me At hello’ comes across as contrived and obvious.

As I always write in re-releases there’s little point picking this up unless you’re a die-hard fan or someone completely new to the band. And if that’s the case you’re better off with ‘FTWHH’ anyway.
