There’s a Lyndsay Diaries-esque quality to the song structures that A Flight To Remember have written, which is rather nice. The way ‘The Startling Truth That You Are Terrific’ pans out is rather pleasant indeed, with intracite guitar lines wrapped round a nice melody. But for all of the nice parts, I really, really cannot stand Marc Newby’s voice. Now maybe it’s just an acquired taste, but on this 8-tracker’s title track, he sounds, well, I’m trying to think of a PC way of putting this. Let’s just say that it’s not a particularly accessible way of singing – and nor is what he is saying very clear. It’s like a mumble by someone who can’t speak properly. And I don’t mean that as a slur on anyone or any specific group (I feel I may need a spade to dig myself out here!) but it’s just absolutely horrible. It doesn’t make any sense to have a decent backing sound and then mumble and warble over it in such a bad way. Or have I missed the point? I’m not sure. So yeah, guitar playing is good. Singing is really not to hot…
