When I last reviewed Amy Can Flyy in 2008 I described them as ‘like Marmite’ with a sound that would piss off as many people as liked it. My opinion hasn’t changed at all. ‘Letting Go of the Monster’ is the kind of single that fans of 3OH!3 and similar bands will adore, while everyone else will groan. I cannot deny the band credit because this little EP is very, very catchy, but it’s disposable in equal measure. It’s following a fashionable trend which seemingly has gone on forever. The blips and synth and keys have all been heard before, but the chorus is extremely catchy and whether or not you loathe this kind of thing, you cannot deny the hook is big enough to land a killer whale. Not so sure on the ‘karaoke version’ that accompanies this release, but for what it is ‘Letting Go of the Monster’ is pretty good. I just can’t say I’m a fan of the genre of music they do.
