Angel City Outcasts – Deadrose Junction

By paul

If you’re a fan of street-punk or Social Distortion‘s patented 80s punk rock tunes, then the new Angel City Outcasts record is for you. ‘Deadrose Junction’ is 14 songs of anthemic proportions, combining a love of AC/DC and Guns n Roses with a more street=punk attitude to come up with a record that has more singalongs than a monring in church. From the Youth Brigade-esque opener of ‘Made For This’, the band rattle through more than a dozen positive, fist-in-the-air tracks.

My only complaint would be that ‘Deadrose Junction’ is long. Very long. The 14 tracks here last almost an hour which, for this type of music, is quite excessive. And while none of the songs are specifically bad, there are definitely a few here that could have been shaved off. Had this record been trimmed to 10 songs and 35-minutes, I feel you’d be looking at a solid 4/5 record. ‘Breakout’ and ‘Cutthroat’ are brilliant songs, but ‘Bleeding Heart Saloon’ and ‘Take The Town‘ could probably have missed the cut. Still, if you’re a fan of the similar bands, ACO are definitely worthy of your time.
