Art’s Got A Gun – Good Solid Walls, Good Solid Floors

By paul

According to their myspace page, “Art’s Got a Gun formed in late 2007 from the the remaining members of ska-punkers Chiggy Chone. Fusing the high energy of Chiggy Chone with influences such as Gallows, Billy Talent and Enter Shikari, Art’s Got a Gun have found a sound that showcases their individual influences without sounding like any of them.” AGAG couldn’t sound any less like a ska band if they tried. They also sound nothing like any of those bands listed above at all. Not even close. Just an observation…

Vocally mainman Deakins certainly takes centre stage. His vox are so high in the mix all you can hear is a scuzzy guitar and drums in the background. Where’s the bass? You can only hear it when everything else has stopped and even then it has this absolutely horrible tone to it. If this was self-recorded at home I guess I should let it slide, but if they paid to have this recorded they should ask for a refund. Whatever floats your boat mind, for me this is just very, very average shouty punk rock with a metal edge. If you want to be aggressive you need riffs and there are none here at all. The only saving grace is the fact the singer certainly has a huge presence, but even then it’s too overbearing on disc. Back to the drawing board for me I’m afraid.
