I don’t get to hear much Hungarian punk rock, but since I changed the reviewing policy to only accept MP3 streams I’ve had two bands from eastern Europe get in touch which is really positive. Bankrupt sound like a mix of late 90s Fat Wreck punk rock and early The Living End. There’s slap bass, choppy three-chord riffs and a little punkabilly influence too. It’s actually pretty impressive stuff. ‘Years of Disasters’ reminds me of MxPx from a few years ago, ‘Straight Outta Graceland’ reminds me a little of a less tech Bigwig, while ‘Sidewinder’ is a delightful little piece of punk rock joy. Bankrupt may not be on too many people’s radars in this country, but they’re a very good prospect and this EP is well worth checking out.
