A new EP by Jeff and co – a bit of a treat. As usual it’s free – donate what you want. As usual thousands of people will probably download it. And the good news is it’s damn good. If you are unfamiliar with BTMI, they are musically a mess, a talented mess – a carefully crafted mess. Jeff still can’t really sing, but there is still something about his voice, and he is still cramming unreasonable amounts of syllables into songs that will soon be drunken sing-alongs amognst students convinced they have found their musical messiah in a man who is basically just doing well doing stuff DIY.
I would say this here 7 tracker is as strong as anything else I’ve downloaded from BTMI – it’s the musical soundtrack to a hangover, the product of a drunken takeaway and an acoustic in some East Coast bedroom. The subject matter is still nice and easy to identify with – renting shitholes, putting on weight, DIY promoters, drinking. It’s still melancholy lyrics over major chords – there is style plenty of dodgy stylophone noise.
If you already know and like BTMI, I can offer you nothing new here with a couple of paragraphs. It’s more of the same, but the good news is it’s fucking entertaining. If you haven’t had the pleasure, go get yourself a copy.
