Burn Down Rome – Faith In Liars, Faith In Thieves

By paul

The atmospherics that kick off the opening track on this EP sound like the really cool bit in 28 Days Later when the lead character is walking around the deserted streets of London if they were reproduced by a hardcore band. It’s not really uncanny, it just reminded me of that very scene, which, incidentally, is a good thing. London’s Burn Down Rome have recently joined the ever-growing 30 Days of Night roster and while the label continues to improve it’s reputation I have to be honest and say that BDR are just too heavy for me. While in places they sound impeccable – and recent reviews from Rock Sound and Big Cheese are very complimetary – it’s just a bit too much for my poppy tastes to handle. That said, you can always tell when a band mean what they sing and there’s a passion and aggression on this record which is very sincere, particularly on ‘O Grave, Where Is Thy Victory?’ That said, while I can appreciate the talents, I can’t say I like it all that much. I’m sure the more hardcore kids among you will enjoy this far more than me.
