Candy Cutter are a definite Marmite band; you’ll love them or hate them, there’s no middle ground. Infact you could even split it into ‘you get them or you don’t get them’ as that would also fit the bill. Formed in Cornwall ‘out of frustration at the Cornish scene’ this record is part aggression, part melody, part fucked up noise. Taking influence from the likes of Rites of Spring, Drive Like Jehu, Heroin, Crain ‘and a bunch of other stuff’ the band, at times, are as bonkers as they come. There’s little structure as the vocals veer from screaming to spoken word and the riffs crash out of your speakers. It makes for an interesting listen if nothing else. The more conventional songs are the better ones for me personally, but I’ll be honest and state that I’m no expert in this genre and so can’t really give that informed an opinion, hence the average score. Listen and make your own mind up.
