Collapse Under The Empire – The Siren

By Andy

COLLAPSE UNDER THE EMPIRE‘s newest release comes in the form of the EP ‘The Sirens Sound’. Starting with a nine minute track of the same name, its synth-infused rock has a haunting and varied sound. Deconstructing the layers of music in each technically brilliant song is a minefield. Each track builds slowly with such intensity, containing fading synth and crashing guitars; ‘Grade Separation’, the lead single, has a trippy feel, flitting through some parts into more focused riffs. The final track, ‘A Different Complexion’ is another nine minute one, bringing the EP around full circle with a significantly more gentle sound.

Collapse Under The Empire have a way of capturing a very specific sort of feeling in their recording, a poignancy which keeps longer instrumental songs fresh and interesting. It’s a bold release, and it certainly has its merits, but ‘The Sirens Sound’ is not for those with a semi-interest in instrumental post-rock. A strong release from a band with a very defined niche.
