Cuba Cuba – Home Is The Fire

By paul

I remember thinking Cuba Cuba sounded like a mix of Friendly Fires and Minus The Bear and that’s exactly the same comparison I made when I first heard ‘Bonus’. There’s some jangly guitars and choppy drums mixed in with some really dance-able elements. Following the likes of Tiger Please and Straight Lines out of Wales, this is yet another strong release coming out of the country. This four-tracker, tagged as a single, features four very strongs. Incidentally I don’t think the lead track is the strongest, even though it’s still a good song. The band rely on catchy choruses but don’t dumb them down – and ultimately i could very easily hear most of these songs on indie radio shows. ‘Golden Grounds’ is a keeper and suggests the band are on the road to bigger and brighter things.
