Delayed originally formed in Johannesburg, South africa but relocated to London a few years ago to help promote their music. A couple of drummers and a few false starts later and this is their brand new EP, which actually, in places sounds really good. In others it’s a little rough around the edges and work needs to be done – ‘Impossible Dream’, for instance, is way, way too long yet has the hallmarks of a decent song. It just needs the fat trimming from it. ‘What Do You Know’ sounds a little like Blink 182, even the lyrics including some purile language and the vocal delivery has that poppy SoCal sneer. ‘Cold December’ is different again, darker, faster and arguably the band’s best track. The lesson Delayed need to learn is to find the sound that fits them best and to make sure they trim the fat from the songs. Three minutes in pop-punk is often plenty – five minutes is way too much.
