Durai – Demo 1

By paul

For a first three-track demo, Durai sound pretty good. They sound like a mix of bands like Hot Water Music, with the gruff vocals, yet have a bit more of a technical edge to their guitars, giving them enough to stand out from the pack. And while there’s still a little bit of work to do, I quite enjoyed the 8 minutes of music on offer here. The band original formed way back in 1999 under a different name and a slightly different sound, but recruited a new member back in 2004 and have since played with the likes of Sommerset, Stop It! and The Dauntless Elite.

‘No Answers Here’ is the best of the three tracks on offer because everything comes together really well – the vocals, solid throughout, shine on this track, and the riffs are meaty enough as well. It’s a trait the band seem to have nailed on each of the three tracks and while they don’t exactly break new boundaries they do what they do very well indeed. Ones to watch.
