Efflux – Mantlepiece Fiasco

By paul

How the Hell do you come up with a sound that sounds like Efflux? Answers on a postcard please – this lot are as mad and bonkers as they come. There’s absolutely no rhyme or reason going on here, it’s just a mess of all kinds of different instruments doing weird things at weird speeds with a sub-standard female vocal over the top. It’s a kind if indie/rock/jazz fusion that goes way, way over my head to be honest. The band asked nicely for a review and stated they were influenced by Fugazi and At the Drive In but I don’t hear either band and, unless they live and die by the spirit of DIY, I really don’t see why the PT audience would be interested in what they do. It’s totally not my thing at all and hence I can’t really give this much of a review – to me it’s all a bit messy and incoherent and pointless, but I’m hardly the target audience. Listen and make up your own mind…
