At a time where I think we all need reminding of it, Fake Problems are here to let us know It’s Great to Be Alive. Whether you agree with them or not, they’ll do their damn hardest to try to make you see things their way, with this quality selection of anthems for the frustrated working class. With their roots set firmly in punk rock, there’s a strong folk rock vein throbbing down the backbone of this band, in the same way there is in The Hold Steady and Against Me!
It’s Great to be Alive is as eclectic as it is consistent, from the sinister electro shuffle of You’re a serpent, you’re a she-snake, to the bittersweet ditty that is Heart BPM. Their songs are ones of quality, and touch on everything from straight up rock ‘n’ roll, to ska, to country, with the occasional orchestral arrangement thrown in for good measure.
Ultimately what we’re left with is a well-crafted collection of songs that should have a bit of something for everyone. At times uplifting, at times a bit sinister but all the time, fun, chances are you’ll find something you like in It’s Great To be Alive.
