Fireworks – vs Save Your Breath

By paul

Save Your Breath have been creeping up on my radar for a while now and the good things I’ve been hearing are certainly justified if this split EP is anything to go by. Signed to the promising Zone 6 records, this split features US pop-punkers Fireworks who themselves are also beginning to make a name for themselves.

Save Your Breath don’t do anything too radically different, but they do it very well. Fast and furious, they have a highly melodic edge which sets them apart from many of the other bands around at the minute. Ironically this EP starts off with the worst track as ‘Intro’ never gets going and really is a bit pointless. But it’s all good from there as ‘Your Oven’s On Fire’ and ‘Bin Laden Saw Your Slogan Shirt And Now He’s Got A Rap Career’ are both very good slabs of melodic pop-punk.

Fireworks are a little more polished than SYB and arguably slightly better. Featuring two songs from their ‘We Are Everywhere’ EP (which, incidentally, is excellent. If only they’d sent me the copy I paid for a year ago, ho hum) and one new track it’s a fun-filled singalong-tastic trio of tunes which will have you humming along in no time. If you like Valencia and Race The Sun then ‘From Mountain Movers To Lazy Losers’ and ‘Michigan Boys Need To Get A Clue’ are certainly the songs for you.

Overall this is an excellent little release and well worth your £4.
