First Step To Failure – New Wheel’s?

By paul

I just want to point out two things before I review the music:

1) Yes, this is called ‘New Wheel’s’. I didn’t spell it wrong. If these boys have a pass in their GCSE English the education system is really letting us down. Personally I blame David Cameron and Nick Clegg.

2) The cover art is a shameless rip off of Limp‘s ‘Guitarded’ album, except done by someone with no art skills whatsoever.

Getting past those two major issues, this EP actually ain’t half bad. It’s aggressive old-skool skate-punk with some major balls. The riff in opening track ‘Emo’ is like something Bigwig used to peel off in their glory days. The vocals spit fury, the drums rattle off like machine gun fire. It’s good, solid stuff. Ditto the oddly named ‘Weasel is a Hermaphrodite’, which again features all the bits you need in a band of this type. ‘Goths Assemble’ builds up nicely – the riffs make this band stick out a bit from their peers.

I couldn’t say this was the best record I’ve ever heard because it’s not. But it’s fun, it’s fast and it’s furious. And it’s 100% not fashionable at all. This is definitely inspired by 90s skate punk and the likes of No Use and Pulley and so if you hark for a band that play fast and don’t mind the odd fuck up, FS2F are the band for you. I just hope their use of the English language improves by the next record…
