Basically, if you like Flogging Molly, you NEED this record. While many bands and labels skimp on the quality of their DVD releases, or simply re-release an album and tack on a short interview and a couple of videos, this DVD shows exactly how it should be done correctly. I’m not even a particularly big Flogging Molly fan, but this documentary charting the band’s history is really, really interesting and an absolute must for anyone who likes them.
There’s a CD and DVD in this package. The CD features a new song, some live recordings and a few acoustic numbers. It’s good, not great, but definitely one for fans. However, it’s the DVD that makes this perfect viewing. All in all there’s about two hours of footage here, intertwining live songs with interviews and features on the various band members. It’s all shot well – not always perfect camera footage but it suits the style – and the pace is quick, kind of suiting the band’s rather chaotic live performances. The DVD also documents the recording of ‘Within a Mile of Home’. I don’t really need to go on and state the obvious – this is a cracker of a release and shows just how DVDs should be made. If you’re a fan, this package is essential.
