Funeral For A Friend – See You All In Hell

By Tom Aylott

FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND bringing out a sort of “oh and by the way” release like ‘See You All In Hell’ might seem a little predictable considering the 2011 they’re having, but regardless – nine tracks that mix a new song, a cover, a remix, acoustic versions and live tracks isn’t bad going, and for those that think they’ll be interested: you’ll have a great time with it.

Unfortunately, these things do always feel a little like a cash in, and the dubstep-esque ‘Medication’ feels like it should have been left for a free-download affair rather than on a “proper” release – though it’s not so bad if you like that sort of thing.

Obviously, the most exciting moments on here were always going to be new recordings, here in the form of Strife‘s ‘Will To Die’ and a new FFAF track – ‘High Castles’. Both, like much of the material FFAF have put down as a full band this year, sound excellent and largely make the release worth it alone.

Though the XFM session live tracks leave a little to be desired, the acoustic tracks sound great, and all in all it’s not a bad EP if you’re a fan – and that’s just it really: if you’re not a particularly large fan of Funeral For A Friend, there’s barely any more reasons to become one here, but that’s obviously not the point anyway.

If you are a fan, then you’ve been spoiled already this year, and ‘See You In Hell’ is just another feather in the cap of the band’s current work ethic.
