Giants Fall – S/T

By paul

This is a real DIY effort – self-titled, self-released and with nothing but the band logo on the CD as artwork. Beautiful. It’s 3 tracks from London’s very own Giants Fall, who have been knocking around since last year.

The band look like a cross between Knuckledust and Foals, but actually play a metallic sort of melodic punk rock that is somewhere right in the middle between Evergreen Terrace riffs and Jade Tree-style post-hardcore. It’s a real ‘work in progress’ kind of sound – slightly sketchy production, which I am usually a fan of, but with so many bands playing this kind of stuff favouring real polished sounds, it kind of hits you that the bar is a little higher than many people give bands credit for.

From their myspace it seems like the band favour a real ‘we’ll play anywhere, anytime’ ethos, which is always good. I suggest that this band will be quite something in 12 months time if they keep touring like bitches. This little taster is far from perfect, but nice and interesting….
