I’m not really too sure which direction Go Vegas are heading in. Vocally there’s a really bratty, Americanised tinge to what they are trying to do, but musically they are more akin to McFly. ‘Venice‘, for instance, could easily be a McFly b-side as it’s so similar in terms of structure and sound. And that’s all well and good but you really have to be catchier than a bout of syphilis at a sex addicts meeting if you want to take on boy-band-esque pop punk and for all their best efforts Go Vegas are still a little way off that. It’s admirable that they don’t try and do anything other than write very, very catchy songs and it would be remiss of me to say the band aren’t on the right lines, because they are. But while the thought-process is working, the execution isn’t quite there. ‘Venice‘ is a good stab but not really memorable enough, while ‘My Mind’ is a bit too poppy for my liking, even though I enjoy a good slab of pop-punk.
I’d give Go Vegas a B- on their report card. Full marks for effort, but execution needs polishing up if they are to fulfill the sound they really want to master.
