Godspeed Us To Sea – Demo

By paul

Godspeed Us To Sea are a five-piece pop-punk band from Bournemouth who claim to be influenced by the likes of The Starting Line and Homegrown – ie bands that didn’t need to rely on sappy synth lines to get their point across. This EP is being given away free to try and get their name out there which is fair play and, while it’s very rough around the edges, it does at least showcase a band playing music they love listening to and you can tell they are having fun doing it. ‘A Summer On The Road’ has plenty of good ideas but is executed in a bit of a sloppy way, but as a band just starting out I’ve heard plenty of worse first demos. My advice would be to deconstruct each song and try and simplify it all. Don’t worry too much about layering vocals without a mix-master extraordinaire handling production duties as it will sound messy. Work hard on writing catchy choruses and riffs and build your songs around them. But, most of all, keep having fun. And then it will all come together nicely.
