Home Star Runner – All Systems Are Failing

By paul

Home Star Runner are beginning to make waves in Ireland and on the back of this EP I’m sure we’ll see and hear more of them in England. Having already played with the likes of Paramore and namechecking New Found Glory as influences, the band play a very melodic brand of pop-rock and, on the whole, it works. This four-tracker is immaculately produced, sounds thick and slick and has everything you’d expect from this type of music. The songs are catchy but not hugely catchy; the four tracks all sound a bit one-paced – I actually checked out their older songs on myspace too and they’re all similar – and I think a little bit of variation would help no end. Quickening things up would set them apart from a lot of other bands, all jostling for position. ‘Lovesick Getaway’ is a good song, but with so many bands around I think you need to write great songs and Home Star Runner aren’t there yet. They’re not a million miles away though.
