Jetlag Gemini – Fire The Cannons

By paul

I was quite impressed by Jetlag Gemini‘s debut EP on Doghouse, a record full of pop hooks yet maintained a rockin’ edge full of riffs and All American Rejects-esque singalongs. The EP set the scene and now the album is following on with all of the good work. While at times it’s a little bit too mainstream for my liking (‘Stepping Stone’ is a future hit but is way too sugary sweet for me) the band do the AAR thing very, very well and I have no doubts they will follow down a very successful path.

There’s a toned down Lit-esque vibe as well, especially in the vocals. It makes for an extremely accessible sound and it doesn’t take very long for you to sing along with gusto. ‘Doctor, Please!’ is a cracker, while ‘Just Say How’ comes across like a less frenetic Billy talent. The band also love their solos and ‘Fit To Be Tied’ as a solo which begs to be busted out on expert on Guitar Hero.

This record is a lot of fun. It’s catchy and has some killer riffs yet isn’t cheesy or too poppy. 2008 really could be their year.
