Johnny Foreigner – Johnny Foreigner vs. Everything

By Tom Aylott

JOHNNY FOREIGNER have returned with new full length ‘Johnny Foreigner vs. Everything’, courtesy of Alcopop! Records.

Johnny Foreigner vs. Everything’ is in a word: frustrating. Seemingly thrown together, there is no real flow to the record. Obviously not every track can be a super fun indie pop/rock banger (of which there are many) but the slower tracks stick out, badly, and takes away from the importance and enjoyment of what are, individually, very good songs and what should be a brilliant record.

With that said, the tracks themselves are very, very good. Switching between the aforementioned super fun indie pop/rock and slower, more introspective tracks with haphazard ease, great charm and overt musical ability.

Clocking in at 56 minutes and featuring a whopping 17 tracks, ‘vs. Everything’ tends to drag a little – the band probably could’ve cut some of the more filler-like tracks to make for a more succinct record. However, the touches of brilliance shown here more than make up for the slip ups and, overall, ‘Johnny Foreigner vs. Everything’ is a nice little listen and deserves a chance to be heard.
