Kill Casino – Paper Walls and the Voice Downstairs

By paul

I know it’s a lazy, lazy comparison but Kill Casino‘s singer has exactly the same style as Gwen Stefani. Karen Luan’s vocal delivery is identical to the No Doubt front gal’s, although there’s a bit more spite and fury in the UK band’s armoury. Truth be told I found this EP to be very average, I didn’t really find anything too memorable and it’s all a bit disposable and directionless. It’s not ‘punk’ enough to be in the Distillers or Hole bracket and it’s not pop enough to be lumped in with Paramore. And while pigeonholing is a lazy journalist’s trait, it also shows a band with an identity crisis. I don’t know what Kill Casino really want to do or sound like – everything follows the same formula but it’s neither aggressive enough or catchy enough. And it’s certainly not both at the same time. Put simply, there are far better bands around right now.
