Lavondyss – Nibiru

By paul

Lavondyss are developing into a very exciting young band. Technically they’re superb; to say some of the riffs on this record really shred would be an understatement. It’s difficult to pin down exactly where the Lavondyss sound mutates from. There’s elements of hardcore bands like Hatebreed, certainly a dash of Thrice and perhaps a slew of Iron Maiden-type bands too. The influence list, I imagine, is pretty lengthy because the band do seem to mix and match their sound pretty well, so much so they sound familiar in terms of genre, but stand out for simply sounding like a band comfortable in their own skin. And if you were familiar with the band from the last EP you will really like this one too. It’s better all-round as the songs sound more mature, the riffs bigger and better than before and structurally things are all in the right place. Vocally there’s even been an improvement too. Lavondyss aren’t really my cup of tea, but it’s difficult not to sit back and go ‘fuck, these guys are actually really good’…
