Let’s Talk Daggers – Blankets

By Andy

LET’S TALK DAGGERS are, without question, Eastbourne’s finest. There’s no denying it. Like the hyperactive yet adorable lovechild of Jacob Bannon and Johnny Whitney, ‘Blankets’ sees this trio frantically spawn a perfectly aggressive blend of chaotic Throats-esque hardcore with screeches and squeals to rival Rolo Tomassi. Dangerous and demanding, this exhausting EP contains brilliantly the essence of feverish fury, vehement aggression and frenzied punk riffs and prevents it with a riotous intensity that many young bands can only dream of.

The scorching ferocity of ‘Footnotes’ packs enough punch to knock Phil Mitchell well into next week, whereas the wonderfully noisy ‘No Business Being Alive’ hones an onslaught of brilliantly threatening punk rock power so relentless it’s intensity is enough to set a city ablaze. ‘3D Rug’ is an art-attack worthy of Neil Buchanan, with angular guitar shrieks and hysteric heaviness enough to entice an apocalyptic whirlwind of awesome. Closer ‘Raina’ is instrument abuse at its finest and never before has such torture sounded so good. Freakishly fantastic, it rages harder, faster and better than many.

It’s not often that bands come along and shatter all expectations so easily, but Let’s Talk Daggers have proved that breaking the mould is still possible. Keep an eye on this lot, they’re certain to explode some time soon.
