Lost Ocean – S/T

By paul

Bakersfield is more famous for KoRn than for Christian rockers Lost Ocean, and to be honest I don’t see that changing any time soon. While their new self-titled album is a fairly impressive effort, the band’s Radiohead/Muse/Copeland triple combo sounds quite good in short spells, but simply lacks the killer punch to land any kind of knockout blow. As the CD arrived in a case without a sleeve I cannot tell you which songs are the best, but there are a few here (tracks 2 and 6 in particular) which flex the singer’s vocal range in impressive fashion. The use of piano helps the tracks result in resounding crescendos, but for me the catchier songs aren’t quite catchy enough and I don’t see this lot appealing to too many Punnktastic users. That said, in short bursts this isn’t too bad at all. Only time will tell if they’re good enough to make waves…
