Make Me King – The Whisper Is A Hint

By Andy

MAKE ME KING are the latest edition to the British scene and release their 5 track EP ‘The Whisper Is A Hint’ through Riot Pop Records. Sounding a lot like Panic! At The Disco meets Fall Out Boy they don’t bring anything noticeably new to the table. This EP is very slick and has been impeccably produced, but the downside is there’s no raw edge and this just allows the band to fall into the never ending pile of bands who sound a bit like each other. Songs are catchy and fast paced and there are plenty of hooks but I don’t think you get to see who the band really are until tracks 4 and 5 which sound more about passion than slickness and really show off the vocals. They’re more powerful and a bit slower than the rest and it’s only here that Make Me King appear to put their own style into this flooded genre.

It’s undeniable that this is a good EP demonstrating talent and skill and Make Me King already have some impressive support slots under their belts – they seem to be getting attention from all the right places. They are very likeable, however they’ve got to compete with a lot of other really likeable bands – they need to really pull something extra out of the bag to ensure they stand out from the crowd.
