“If you like the sounds of Fall Out Boy, Panic At The Disco or anything of that genre, you’re going to love Mayday Parade.” At least the band themselves know exactly where their allegiances lie. Their own description fits them about perfect as Mayday Parade certainly have a little FOB-without-the-wit about them, and while some could argue their sound is a little tried, tested and generic, I believe they manage to pull it off very well. The songs are insanely catchy, the sound polished and overall this EP acts as a very good taster of what is to come.
‘When I Get Home, You’re So Dead’ is a real standout, part The Higher, part Panic! At The Disco, totally catchy and singalong. It’s Premier League pop-punk and if you check out just one song today, make sure it’s this one. ‘ One Man Drinking Games’ and ‘Just Say You’re Not Into It’ are a little slower yet just as catchy, while ‘Your Song’ ups the pace again and gets things going.
At 6 songs it serves as an excellent introduction to the band and if you’re a fan of any of the bands mentioned in this review, Mayday Parade, while not breaking new ground, will be one of those bands you can get into now before the mainstream press tell you they’re cool…
