If you like this new crop of pop-punk bands laced with synth and keys then you will probably enjoy Mercy Mercedes. Sounding not that dissimilar to Forever The Sickest Kids and the thousands of other bands doing very similar things, you have to ask yourself if there’s room for anybody else with this sound. At times MM come across well, ‘Get It Darlin‘ probably hits the right notes the most, but too many times the band sound generic and predictable and it’s obvious where the keys will come in, where the disco-y bits will start and, shock horror, when the vocoder will kick in on the vocals. ‘1.21 Giggawatts’ is a fun record, I won’t deny it, but it’s very throwaway and flavour of the month and other bands do it better.
