Metro Station – S/T

By paul

Who is more famous – Billy Ray Cyrus or Miley Cyrus? I guess it depends on how old you are – those under 18 may know Hannah Montana better than those older PT-ers who still have an ‘achey breaky heart’. Either way, there’s another Cyrus doing the musical rounds and this is his band – Metro Station. While not as overtly pop as Miley Cyrus and her many guises, Metro Station are still very much a pop band aimed at the younger end of the market. They’re a toned down, scrubbed up Panic at the Disco – and that says everything.

Still, if you take this album at face value it’s actually OK. ‘Control’ and ‘Kelsey’ are fun enough tracks that will have you singing along and the good tracks outweigh the bad ones. Admittedly this is very, very poppy and the songs here are pop tracks dressed up with a few synths and beats to try and disguise it, but I don’t think it’s trying to do anything but make you sing along and it does that pretty well. Even the bad songs, such as ‘Shake It’ have catchy choruses and when you write music to make people move and dance then I guess that’s all you can do. You can’t take Metro Station seriously, they’re not that type of band. But if you want some throwaway pop music then you could do a hell of a lot worse…
