Mobile – Tomorrow Starts Today

By paul

If you want carefully crafted rock songs written straight for the radio, then Mobile are the band for you. Carrying on The Militia Group’s tradition for releasing records that are choc-full of catchy choruses, Mobile‘s ‘new’ album (which is gaining its first US release after being put out previously in Canada) is destined for bigger things.

Self-confessed fans of Primal Scream, The Cure, Stone Roses, The Police and even Pink Floyd, Mobile aren’t your flavour-of-the-month emo band, and because of that they deserve a little bit of credit. But at the same time their sound reminds me of bands just bursting from the radio – there is a very British influence that comes through, particularly in the vocals, although it doesn’t come across in a way where I’m convinced the band always mean it. That said, pretty much every song on this release has a memorable chorus and catchy hooks and that’s all you need – not the best TMG release, but solid as a rock nonetheless.
