Monet – The Chase

By Tom Aylott

Following in footsteps of the soaring pop rock bands like Futures, Bury St Edmunds based Monet’s debut EP ‘The Chase’ isn’t something that will propel the band into popularity with immediate effect, but it’s certainly a solid foundation for where the band moves onto next.

The band’s arrangements are well executed and the band are impressive considering this is their first release, but ‘The Chase’ is a little short of the killer edge that they’ll need to make bug waves. That’s certainly not saying they don’t have the potential to do so, though – their sound just needs a little more character to set them aside from those who’ve come before.

‘The Chase’ is bookend with its most impressive tracks (down the big choruses of ‘Chase’ and great vocals of ‘Only You’), but despite the hefty production, the band don’t quite sound sure of themselves. Monet are certainly worth checking out now before they hit their full stride, and if you’ve the patience to see the potential in ‘The Chase’, you’ll be looking forward (like we are) to what comes next.
