Motionview Emergency – Demo

By paul

I swore I’d never review a two-tracker again, but quite clearly I lied. Motionview Emergency are based up in the North of England and feature former My Favourite Co-Pilot and Stories and Comets drummer Dan Osborne, plus a cast of three new bandmates. While this lot are a lot more melodic than either of those bands, they are the closest thing to MFCP that I’ve herad in a while – and that is certainly not a bad thing. While the generic dynamics are all there, The Emergency’s secret weapon would appear to be Peter Cowen’s vocals, which soar about crashing symbals and scything guitars. They make a racket, but they’re also very good.

‘So Here’s Your War’ arguably shades the first song in terms of quality, but both suggest we’ll be hearing a lot more in the future. As I say, it’s not really anything brand spanking new, but there’s a grit and a rawness that makes this kind of music honest and believable – I think when bands of this ilk get too polished and shiny it takes away some of that effect. ME manage to combine the screaming and singing well, making these two tracks very enjoyable. It will be interesting to see where they go from here.
