This record is excellent. I like my punk rock to be passionate, aggressive – sometimes angry – yet with plenty of melodic undertones. Movement Library do all of this – and more – and all on their first release. Referencing Propagandhi and Comeback Kid among influences, the band race through five songs in just six minutes to put out as bright a debut DIY release as I’ve heard in a long, long time. There’s a bit on the second track where vocalist adam screams ‘are you fucking in?’ and it stands out like one of those defining moments on all of your favourite punk records from years gone by.
Without over-egging this band too much, this EP is five-tracks of aggressive, shouty melodic hardcore played at breakneck speed. While most songs are sub 1-minute, there’s the odd track which extends is reach, such as the fantastic ‘Cut Short’, which showcases the band’s real talent. the guitars scythe through the vocals – the backing vox and harmonies are spot on – and the drums don’t let up at all. To all new bands merely following the fashion trends, this is how you do it. Brilliant stuff.
