Another month, another new MxPx record. This must be, what, the third or fourth of the year? Prolific times. OK, so this record is made up of festive songs the band have recorded over the last 10 years or so, so I’m not sure we can define it as ‘new’, but it’s quite good fun all the same. A novelty record good for one good blast a year.
The vast majority of these songs are actually original efforts so thumbs up to the band for writing more than a dozen Christmas songs. The vast bulk are also in the band’s older more skate-punk style which, for me anyway, gets an even bigger thumbs up. The album runs chronologically in order of the year the band released each individual song, starting in 1998 through to this year. The production actually gets better as things go on, which isn’t a surprise, but the pace and melodies remain throughout. The newest track, ‘Punk Rawk Christmas’, is actually really fun, while the likes of ‘So This Is Christmas’ and ‘It’s Christmas and I’m Sick’ are also pretty good. I can’t actually say there’s a bad song here. which is remarkable bearing in mind the limited subject matter.
I can’t see this record getting too much action after the Christmas period, but still, this will help you enjoy a Punk Rawk Christmas if nothing else.
