Our Last Night – We Will All Evolve

By Andy

‘We Will All Evolve’ is the third studio album from Epitaph’s OUR LAST NIGHT. Strong melodies are backed up by layered screams and sung vocals, adding depth to the music, and bringing the harshness of a screamo band into a more unified sound. Harmonies counteract a heavy riff-centric group of songs but though ‘We Will All Evolve’ will certainly appeal to established fans of the genre, it doesn’t bring anything new to the table. Somewhat repetitive lyrics mean that the tracks blend together.

There are some standout tracks though – ‘Mouth Machine Gun’ has catchy guitars and a singalong chorus that stays with you. ‘Across The Ocean’ has more delicate verses contrasting with much harsher choruses that balance out well and the electro-sound of ‘We Will All Evolve’ backed up my militant drums ends the album on a high. All in all, a recommendable release for fans of the genre.
