“Pareto are a 3 piece band from Glasgow who mix crunchy and jaggy guitars with big melodic vocal lines. “, or so the band proclaim in their email to me asking for a review. It’s a fairly solid and honest opening, befitting a fairly solid and honest band. It’s the kind of record you could imagine coming out of the BSM/Alcopop stable; inventive, choppy and catchy with some big hooks. I guess as the band are from Scotland there will be some Biffy/Twin Atlantic comparisons in other reviews and while the three bands don’t sound alike sonically, I guess when you sing with an accent as all three do there will always be some common ground. It’s no bad thing as the likes of ‘Call Me Alphabet’ testify; this is a band setting out to do good things and they, for the most part, succeed. This is a good little EP that stands the band in good stead for the future.
